Sutton Courtenay is a Thames-side village with a genuine sense of history. George Orwell and the former PM Herbert Asquith are both buried in the churchyard. The village green and the Norman Hall give it proper character. Housing is a mix of period properties and newer builds on the edges. It's prettier and more established than most of the surrounding villages, which is reflected in the prices. The proximity to Didcot is both a plus (for the train) and a minus (the power station site and distribution sheds on the horizon).
