Harmans Water was one of the earlier estates, Crown Wood came later in the 1980s. Crown Wood is noticeably different in style, with more varied, timber-clad housing that was considered quite modern for its time. It backs onto Swinley Forest, which is genuinely good woodland with mountain bike trails. Harmans Water is more conventional new town terraces. Together they cover the southeastern chunk of Bracknell. Crown Wood in particular has a slightly more rural feel because of the forest edge.
