West Byfleet has a proper village centre along Station Approach and Old Woking Road with independent shops, cafes, a Waitrose, and a few restaurants. The station is the anchor, and the fast Waterloo service makes it popular with City commuters. Housing is mostly 1930s semis and detached houses, with some larger Edwardian properties on the roads heading toward Pyrford. Byfleet itself is smaller and less polished, centred on the High Road with a more workaday feel. There is a lot of post-war housing and some ex-council stock. The Wey Navigation towpath is good for walking and cycling. Families like it because you get more house for your money than in Weybridge or Cobham next door, and the schools are solid without being exceptional.
