Redbourn is a proper village with a long, attractive high street, a cricket common, and a clear sense of itself as somewhere separate from both St Albans and Harpenden. There is a decent pub scene, a few useful shops, and a well-regarded primary school. Housing is a mix of period cottages along the high street and newer development on the edges. It sits on the old Watling Street, which gives it good road connections. No station of its own, so you are driving to Harpenden or St Albans for the train. The village feel is genuine, not manufactured.
