Ditchling is a proper Sussex village with a strong identity. The high street has a butchers, a greengrocers, a post office, and several pubs. The village has been an artists' colony since the early 20th century, and Eric Gill's workshop was here. Ditchling Beacon towers above the village, with views across the Weald. Housing ranges from period cottages in the conservation area to larger detached properties on the edges. Westmeston is a tiny hamlet to the east, scattered along a lane with a church and a few houses. Ditchling Primary is well regarded. Brighton is a 15-minute drive. You're paying a premium for the village life and the setting.
