Buxted is a proper village just north of Uckfield on the edge of the High Weald. It has its own station on the London line (slow but direct to London Bridge via Uckfield), a decent primary school, a church, and the Buxted Inn. Buxted Park, now a hotel, gives the place a slightly grander feel than you might expect. Housing is a mix of older cottages in the centre and 1960s-70s builds spreading outward. Families like it because it feels self-contained without being isolated. Ashdown Forest is close for weekend walks.
