The Saxon Shore area takes in the flat marshland fringe around Appledore and the edges of Romney Marsh within Ashford borough. Appledore itself is a small, attractive village with a medieval church and a couple of pubs, but the wider area is very sparsely populated farmland. The Royal Military Canal runs through here. It is the sort of place where your nearest neighbour might be half a mile away and the school run means a proper drive.
