Shenfield is the reason people move to this part of Essex. The Elizabeth line runs straight into Liverpool Street and through to the West End, which changed the commuter calculus when Crossrail opened. The high street along Hutton Road has a proper mix of independents, a Waitrose, cafes and restaurants. It feels like a prosperous village that happens to have an excellent train service. Housing near the station is mostly Edwardian and interwar, with bigger detached houses on the roads heading towards Hutton Mount. Shenfield Common provides a stretch of woodland right on the doorstep. Families dominate, and the schools are a significant draw.
