The town centre and immediate surrounds. The high street has struggled for years and the shopping centre feels dated. There are plans and ongoing work to redevelop parts of the centre, but progress has been slow. The Elizabeth line station is here, which is the main draw. The Curve library is a genuinely good civic building. Eating options are diverse and often excellent if you know where to look. Living here means flats, noise, and bustle, but you are on the Crossrail in minutes. It is a place to be practical about, not romantic.
