Dulwich Wood & Sydenham Hill

The wooded southern edge of Southwark, bordering Lewisham and Bromley. Dulwich Wood and Sydenham Hill Wood are proper ancient woodland, rare in London. The housing is mostly large detached and semi-detached properties, many from the Victorian and Edwardian era, tucked among the trees. Sydenham Hill station has an infrequent but direct service into the City. It feels genuinely rural in places, which is remarkable given you are still inside the South Circular.
