West Horndon is a small settlement in the flat southern end of Brentwood borough, strung out along Station Road between the A127 and the c2c railway line. The station gives you a direct run into Fenchurch Street in about 35 minutes, which is the main reason anyone moves here. The village itself is not much to look at. A few streets of mixed housing, some 1950s and 60s, some newer infill, and a growing number of new builds on old industrial land around the station. There is no real high street or shops beyond the bare minimum. The Woolpack and the Swan do pub food. Families with cars are fine because Brentwood and Basildon are both close, but without a car you would feel it. The countryside around Thorndon Country Park is nearby to the north, which helps.
