Tarpots takes its name from the junction where the A13 meets the A129, and it is very much defined by that road infrastructure. The area around the junction has a retail park, a Lidl, and the usual parade of takeaways and car garages. Behind the main roads, though, the residential streets are quiet enough, mostly 1950s and 60s housing with some bungalows. It's the least characterful part of Benfleet but it's affordable and you can get onto the A13 quickly, which suits people who drive to work rather than take the train.
