Berkhamsted Castle

This is the heart of old Berkhamsted, centred around the castle ruins and the lower part of the high street. The housing stock is a real mix: period cottages near the high street, some Victorian terraces, and larger Edwardian houses on the roads climbing up from the valley floor. The station is here, which makes it the most convenient part of town for commuters. The canal runs through and people walk and cycle along the towpath. It feels like the core of the town, where most of the pubs, restaurants, and shops are concentrated.
