Erith is one of the borough's older settlements, right on the Thames. The town centre has had various attempts at regeneration over the years, with mixed results. The Riverside Shopping Centre and pier are the main features. The high street is functional rather than attractive. Erith station has services to London Bridge. Housing is a real mix, from Victorian terraces to post-war estates and newer builds. Erith Marshes and the Thames Path offer some waterside character. It is one of the cheapest parts of the borough and has a hard reputation, but there is genuine community here and the riverside is underrated.
