Bovingdon is the biggest of the three, a large village on the plateau between Hemel Hempstead and Chesham. There is a proper high street with a butcher, a Co-op, pubs, and a Saturday market on the old airfield. The housing stock ranges from older cottages around the centre to 1960s and 70s estates on the edges. Chipperfield is smaller and noticeably posher, centred on a large village common with cricket in summer and a well-regarded pub (the Two Brewers). Flaunden is tiny, a hamlet tucked into a valley with a church, a few farms, and some very expensive houses hidden up lanes. All three rely on Hemel or the M25 corridor for commuting. The primary schools are popular and it has a strong family community, the kind of place where the village fete still matters.
