Boxmoor is the nicest part of Hemel and everyone knows it. The moor itself is proper common land with cattle grazing right next to the canal and the River Bulbourne. St John's Road has a good run of independent shops, cafes and a pub or two. The housing is largely Victorian and Edwardian, predating the New Town entirely. Hemel Hempstead station is here, so it's the main commuter hub. Families pay a premium for the Boxmoor primary catchment. It feels more like a Hertfordshire market town than a New Town suburb.
