Orpington is a proper suburban town with its own high street, Walnuts shopping centre, and a full range of amenities. The station has fast trains to London Victoria and London Bridge, which makes it a serious commuter option. Housing is mostly 1930s semis and detached houses, with newer estates around the edges. The high street is functional rather than charming, with chains dominating. Priory Gardens is a nice park in the centre. It's popular with families who want a big house and garden without paying Bromley or Beckenham prices. The trade-off is that it feels more like Kent than London.
