Riddlesdown is the real draw here. The open chalk downland is beautiful and feels properly rural, with miles of walking. The residential streets around Purley Oaks station are quiet and suburban, mostly 1930s semis. Riddlesdown station gives you a direct route to London Bridge. It's the kind of area families discover when they realise they can get countryside walks and a Zone 6 station in the same place.
