The residential streets spreading out from the town centre, mostly to the north and east. This is the bulk of Grays proper. Victorian and Edwardian terraces closer to the centre give way to interwar semis further out. There are a few parades of shops on the main roads but nothing that would count as a high street. Palmer's College (now part of USP) is here. It is a straightforward, affordable area where people live because they need to be near the station or the A13.
