MK44 2 / MK44 3
Great Barford is a proper village on the River Great Ouse with a medieval bridge that is one of the best preserved in Bedfordshire. There is a village green, a primary school, a pub (the Anchor), and a small shop, so you can manage day to day without getting in the car for everything. Housing is a mix of older stone and brick cottages in the centre and modern estates that have expanded the village outward, especially on the east side. The A421 dual carriageway runs just south, giving easy access to Bedford one way and the A1/Sandy the other, but it also means some road noise on the southern fringe. Families tend to like it for the school and the countryside setting without being completely isolated.
