Highgate is one of London's genuine hilltop villages. The High Street has proper independent shops, pubs, and cafes. Highgate Cemetery is famous but it's also a real community landmark. Waterlow Park and the edges of Hampstead Heath are on the doorstep. The housing ranges from grand Georgian and Victorian houses to some mansion flats and a scattering of council stock. Highgate tube is Northern line, though it's at the bottom of the hill so there's always a climb home. It's expensive and it feels it. Quiet, well-maintained, slightly smug. Good primaries, strong community associations, and people who've lived here for decades alongside newer families.
