Rainham sits on the edge of London, where the suburbs give way to marshland and the Thames estuary. The old village centre around Rainham church has some character, but most of the housing is 20th-century development spreading out from the station. Rainham station is on the District line and c2c, giving access to both central London and Essex. Wennington is a tiny village a mile or so away, with a church, a few houses, and a lot of farmland. It made national news in 2022 when a huge grassfire destroyed several homes. Housing is affordable by Havering standards. The marshes provide miles of walking and cycling.
