Uxbridge is the main town in Hillingdon and the terminus of both the Metropolitan and Piccadilly lines. The town centre has been redeveloped around the intu shopping centre and has most high street chains. Brunel University is a major presence, which gives the town a younger demographic than you might expect. The high street has a market three days a week. Housing ranges from period properties near the town centre to large interwar estates spreading outward. It's not the prettiest London suburb, but it's practical, well-connected, and more affordable than Ruislip or Northwood.
