Ingatestone feels more like a village than a suburb, which is the main draw. The High Street has a genuine mix of independent shops, a Co-op, a couple of pubs, and places to eat. Housing is a spread of period cottages near the centre, 1930s semis on the roads leading out, and some newer development on the fringes. The station is right in the village and gives you Liverpool Street in about 30 minutes, which is why prices are higher than you might expect for somewhere this size. Ingatestone Hall and the surrounding countryside give it a proper rural feel. The Anglo-European School (now a secondary academy) is nearby and draws from a wide area. It is a car-and-train place, not really walkable beyond the village core, but most residents seem fine with that trade-off.
