Odiham feels like a genuine village rather than a commuter dormitory, even though plenty of residents do exactly that. The High Street has character, with the George Hotel, The Waterwitch by the canal, and a scattering of cafes and local shops. Housing is a mix of period cottages and larger detached places on the lanes out of the village, with some newer development around the edges. The Basingstoke Canal towpath is the big draw for dog walkers and weekend strolls, and the castle ruins at North Warnborough are a proper local landmark. Robert May's in Odiham is the secondary, and the primaries are well regarded. It is expensive, quiet, and car-dependent. If you want village life in north Hampshire with London within reach, Odiham is one of the places people actually mean when they say that.
