Hook is a large village that grew rapidly with 1980s and 1990s estates and still hasn't quite figured out what its centre is. There's a small parade of shops near the station but nothing you'd call a high street. What it does well is practical family life: the housing is mostly modern detached and semi-detached with gardens, Robert May's is a well-regarded secondary, and Hook station gets you to Waterloo in under an hour. The A30 runs through, which is handy for driving but means traffic. Most people are here because it ticks the boxes rather than because they fell in love with the place.
