Lambourn is defined by horses. Racing yards line the roads in and out of the village, and you will see strings of racehorses on the gallops most mornings. The housing is a mix of older cottages in the village centre and some newer builds on the edges. It is a proper rural community with a strong local identity, partly because of the racing world and partly because it is fairly isolated. The high street has a few essentials but nothing to write home about. There is no train station, so Newbury (about 20 minutes by car) is your link to London via the GWR main line. Schools are limited to the village primary. Families do live here, but it is more a place for people who work in the racing industry or want deep countryside without caring about convenience.
