Mitcham is one of the more affordable parts of Merton, with a strong working-class identity and a diverse community. The town centre has a good local market and a wide range of shops reflecting the community. Mitcham Green and the surrounding streets have a more residential feel. It does not have a Tube but there are buses and the tram at Belgrave Walk and Dundonald Road helps. Schools are decent.
