Herstmonceux is the better known part of this area, thanks to the castle (now home to the Observatory Science Centre) and a decent village centre with a pub, a shop, and a primary school. The Pevensey Levels themselves are flat, open marshland. Beautiful in a bleak sort of way, full of drainage ditches and sheep, not the place to move if you want neighbours. Housing is scattered farmhouses, some period cottages in Herstmonceux village, and a few newer infill plots. You need a car for everything. Windswept and quiet, which is either the appeal or the dealbreaker.
