South Portslade covers the lower ground between the railway line and Shoreham Harbour. It has an industrial and working heritage that still shows, with the harbour area, commercial estates, and some grittier streets mixed in with Victorian and Edwardian terraces. The Basin Road area along the harbour has seen some creative workspace conversion in recent years. Portslade station is right here for Southern services to Brighton and along the coast. It is more affordable than most of Brighton and Hove, which pulls in younger buyers and renters. Not pretty, but functional and honest about what it is.
