North Portslade is the residential half, stretching uphill from the Old Village towards Hangleton and Mile Oak. Streets are mostly interwar and post-war semis with gardens, the sort of stock that families buy when they want space without Brighton prices. The Old Village around St Nicolas church has a surprising amount of character, with flint cottages and a proper village feel that predates all the surrounding suburban development. Portslade and Aldrington stations are both walkable for getting along the coast, and buses into Brighton are frequent. It is quiet in the way that suits people who want to be near the sea without living in a party town.
