The centre of Camberwell, around the green and the junction where Denmark Hill, Camberwell Road, and Camberwell New Road meet. It is busy, messy, and full of life. The high street has a mix of independent shops, chicken shops, Caribbean food, and the arts crowd from Camberwell College of Arts. Georgian and Victorian houses on the side streets, many of them beautiful if you can ignore the traffic. No tube, which keeps prices slightly more honest than they should be for somewhere this central. The 36 and 171 buses are your friends.
