Deptford

Deptford has transformed dramatically over the past twenty years and the regeneration is still ongoing. The old High Street has a fascinating mix of historic pubs, Caribbean takeaways and new independent cafes sitting side by side, and the area around Deptford Broadway has seen significant new development including the cinema and retail complex that has anchored the newer community. The Tate and Laban dance centre put Deptford on the cultural map and the creative community has stayed. Some streets are still rough and the estate areas can feel a long way from the polished bits, but the trajectory is consistently upward.
