The original village that existed before Stevenage New Town was built around it. The High Street has proper character with pubs, independent shops, and older buildings that predate the 1950s development. It feels completely different from the rest of Stevenage. Housing is a mix of Victorian and Edwardian cottages, some Georgian, and later infill. Families and people who want something with more personality than the New Town estates gravitate here. It is the most expensive part of Stevenage but still affordable by wider Hertfordshire standards.
