Twyford village is the anchor here. The high street has enough going on that you don't need to drive to Reading for everyday life, and the station is a genuine asset since the Elizabeth line extended out this way. The housing around the centre is mostly Edwardian and interwar, with newer cul-de-sac developments spreading south and east. Ruscombe is barely a hamlet, just a church and a few houses on the road towards Wargrave. Hurst is a proper village with a cricket ground, a pub (the Castle Inn), and a scatter of period houses along narrow lanes. The whole area feels settled and comfortable. It's the kind of place people move to for the schools and then never leave.
