New Town is the large area of post-war and 1960s/70s housing development on the western side of Uckfield. It is where most of the town's population actually lives. The housing is mostly semis and smaller detached houses on curving estate roads, functional rather than pretty. There are local shops and a community centre. It feels suburban in a way the rest of Uckfield does not, but it is affordable and the primary schools serve the area reasonably well.
