Watton-at-Stone

Watton is a village that works well for commuters without feeling like a commuter dormitory. The station on the Hertford loop gives you a direct run into Moorgate, which is the main reason families settle here. There is a proper village centre with a pub, a primary school, and a community hall, plus the river Beane running through. Housing is a mix of older properties around the High Street and some modern estates on the edges. It is not particularly pretty in a picture-postcard way, but it functions well as a village. The countryside around is open and accessible for walking.
