Old Windsor predates the castle town and still feels like a separate village, even though suburban development has filled in much of the gap. The village has a proper centre with a pub, a church, and a small parade of shops. Housing is a mix of older cottages, 1950s and 60s houses, and some larger properties on the roads towards Englefield Green. The Great Park is right on the doorstep, and the Savill Garden is a genuine asset. It is quieter and more self-contained than Windsor itself. No station, so you are driving to Windsor or Egham for the train. Families like it for the space and the countryside access.
