Leavesden

Leavesden is best known for the Warner Bros studios, which brought the area to international attention and generated a fair amount of local employment. The old aerodrome site has been redeveloped with the studios and a large housing estate of modern family homes. The newer builds attract young families priced out of nearby areas like Watford and Rickmansworth. There is a Tesco and a handful of other shops near the roundabout but it is not a place with a high street or much independent character. Leavesden Country Park is a genuine asset, with good space for kids and dogs. It feels like a modern commuter suburb grafted onto what was once open land between Abbots Langley and Watford.
