Aldermaston is a quiet village strung along lanes south of the A4 between Reading and Newbury. The village itself has a church, a pub, and a recreation ground, but very little else. The Atomic Weapons Establishment sits to the south and is by far the biggest employer in the area, which gives the village a slightly unusual character compared to other West Berkshire villages. Aldermaston station is on the Reading to Newbury line, handy enough for commuting into Reading. Housing is a mix of older cottages and some 20th century development. It's peaceful but not especially pretty by West Berkshire standards.
