Great Missenden is the main village here, famous as the place where Roald Dahl lived and wrote. The high street has a small but genuine selection of independent shops, a couple of pubs, and the Roald Dahl Museum, which brings families in from all over. Little Missenden is smaller and quieter, a proper Chilterns hamlet with a medieval church and not much else. The housing is a mix of period cottages in the villages and larger houses tucked into the surrounding woods and hills. Great Missenden station is on the Chiltern line to Marylebone, which takes about 45 minutes. The countryside around here is beautiful, beechwoods and rolling chalk hills, and it genuinely feels rural even though London is under an hour away.
