This covers old Aylesford village and the slopes up towards the North Downs. The village itself is worth seeing, with the medieval bridge over the Medway, a cluster of ragstone and weatherboarded cottages, and The Friars just up the road. Away from the historic core the housing thins out into the Downs, with some larger detached properties and rural lanes. There is a village store and a couple of pubs, but you are heading into Maidstone for a proper shop. Aylesford station is down by the river. It is a pleasant spot if you want a Kent village that is not entirely chocolate box but has real character.
