Abbey covers the heart of Barking town centre, including the station, the old abbey ruins, and the main shopping area along East Street. The market is still going and the Vicarage Field shopping centre does the job for basics. There has been a lot of new build around the station and towards the Roding. It is busy, noisy, and urban, but the transport links are excellent with District, Hammersmith & City, C2C, and Overground all from one station. If you want convenience and affordability over peace and quiet, this is the trade-off.
