Darenth sits in the valley bottom along the River Darent, with a proper village feel centred on the old church and a cluster of older cottages. The housing is a mix of period properties and some 20th century infill. It is quieter and more tucked away than Bean, with less road noise. There is no real high street to speak of. Darenth Valley Hospital used to dominate the area and its former grounds have been partly redeveloped. You need a car for everything, but if you want a small Kent village within reach of the M25, this is one of the more affordable options.
