The west side is where most of the big new development has happened. Kingsmere is the main estate, a huge Taylor Wimpey development with its own primary school, community centre, and eventually a local centre. Nearby is the NW Bicester eco-town site at Elmsbrook, which was meant to be a showcase for sustainable housing. The old town centre and market square are on the western edge of the town, and this is still the nicest part of Bicester with some attractive stone buildings, independent shops, and a couple of decent pubs. The Bicester Village outlet is also on this side, which creates traffic on weekends.
