Thorley sits on the southwestern edge of Bishop's Stortford. Originally a separate village, it has been absorbed into the town as housing estates expanded. The St James Centre provides a small local hub with a handful of shops. Housing is mainly post-war and modern estates. The area has grown significantly with new developments towards the south, adding thousands of homes over the past decade. It's functional family territory: newer houses with parking and gardens, but less character than the older parts of town closer to the centre.
