The Lexicon shopping centre transformed Bracknell town centre from something genuinely depressing into a perfectly functional retail and dining destination. Fenwick's anchors it, and there's a decent cinema and restaurant selection. The Parks is the residential area immediately surrounding the centre, with a mix of older town centre housing and newer apartments built as part of the regeneration. Bracknell station is here, with direct trains to Reading and Waterloo. Living in the centre makes sense if you work locally or commute by train, but it still doesn't have the evening life or personality of an organic town centre. It's clean, convenient, and a bit soulless, which is the new town trade-off.
