Kemptown is Brighton's LGBTQ+ heartland and has been for decades. St James's Street is the main strip, with independent shops, cafes, bars, and a proper community atmosphere. The Regency squares near the seafront are beautiful. Further from the sea it becomes more ordinary Victorian terraces but still with a lot of character. The Sunday morning brunch scene is serious. It can get noisy at weekends, especially in summer, but that's the deal you make living in central Brighton.
