Caxton is a small village at the old crossroads of the A1198 and A428, with a pub and not much else. Papworth Everard is better known, historically a hospital village that has had significant new housing development. The old Papworth Hospital site has been redeveloped and the village has a small shopping parade, a surgery, and a primary school. Both villages are car-dependent and feel quite separate from Cambridge despite being only about 15 miles out. Papworth has more going on day to day than Caxton but neither would be described as lively.
