Chaldon is a tiny village on the chalk ridge above Caterham. It is genuinely rural, just a church, a pub (The Fox), a village green, and scattered houses along narrow lanes. The church has a remarkable medieval wall painting that is one of the oldest in England. No shops, no station, you drive everywhere. Housing is a mix of older cottages and larger detached houses, some quite grand. Families who live here tend to be committed to the village life and the local primary. Not somewhere you stumble into, you move to Chaldon because you specifically want to live in a Surrey village.
